Monsters & Encounters

Note: For simplicity all creatures reffered to in this section can be found either in the D&D 3rd Edition Monster Manual or the Sword & Sorcery Creature Collection.

Dragons

As the home world of all dragonkind, Suelo is absolutely lousy with dragons and their kin. Therefore all true dragons and dracoforms (dracolisks, dragonnes, dracohydras, dragonets, etc...) are as likely to be encountered as a creature with a CR five lower.

Humanoids

Bugbears: Known as bugbears to humans, but called Oni by both themselves and their civilized cousins, bugbears are the only true goblinoid race on Suelo with an evil bent. Descendants of a decadent hobgoblin tribe driven underground during the formation of Yur 1500 years ago, the Oni were warped by the dark forces within the middle world. Their tribes have spread through the middle world, and the Oni can be found worshiping their dark gods in many secluded caverns.

Gnolls: With the civilization of the orcs, ogres, goblins, and hobgoblins different creatures are needed to fill their places on encounter tables and the worlds ecology. On Suelo Gnolls are as common in most of the world's regions as orcs and hobgoblins combined in other worlds.

Kobolds: Never considered goblinoids by their Suelon brethren, a stance supported by their obvious reptilian heritage, these little beasts were excluded from the formation of the Divine Empire of Yur. Suelon kobolds behave much the same as their offworld cousins. Tribes are often subjugated by oni and gnolls, or slavishly devoted to one of their draconic ancestors.

Tarrasques

Unlike many other worlds cursed with only one of these abominations, Suelo is cursed with many tarrasques. Believed to be weapons of mass destruction left-over from the ancient wars between the Ceruleans and the Ora, little else is known of these beasts.

Ancient lore from the Oran Empire and later sources reveal that their may once have been nearly a score of tarrasques, at least a dozen remain. Unfortunately their current whereabouts are unknown. The ancient records give names to each of the great tarrasques. The whereabouts of only two of the titans are currently known. Earth-Shaker is asleep on the continent of Sinia; and Night-Bringer is nearing the end of it's main activity cycle on the islands near Arizon's South-East coast. Persistent rumors from the Illithid lands in Southern Gondwania lead sages to believe that The Devourer may have recently awakened there, but little hard evidence has been found.

What is known is that the average Suelon tarrasque is twice as powerful as the beast found on other worlds. Those beasts, known to the sages of Dragonhome as lesser tarrasques, are the spawn of the Suelon Brood-Mother. The greatest of the tarrasques, Doom, is believed to be invulnerable and hasn't been seen on the surface since the fall of the Ceruleans 20 millenia ago. Following is a table which lists the names, status, and distinguishing characteristics of the known greater tarrasques.

Beneath the Waters

With the frequency of spelljamming, the depths of the oceans are the only remaining frontier upon Suelo itself (except for the frozen wastes of the northern polar continent Fochen). Sahuagin and Locathah may indeed dwell in the depths of the Four Seas, but they rarely emerge from the depths. Mermen are viewed as nothing more than fairy tales, even by the magically active denizens of Suelo. The Merrow (Sea Ogres) and Aqualfar (Sea Elves) are aware of the merpeople, but by ancient pact never  speak of them with those 'not of the sea'.

Merrow and Aqualfar stay near to the shores, and rarely travel the deep ocean except for the short trip between southern Yur and northern Arizon, so the true depths of the sea, and the ruins depostited their at close of the Giant Wars, remain unexplored.

Encounter Tables

This is the type of encounter table prepared for Suelon environs. Unlike those in the DMG you need to roll three dice on these and total the result, a d8, d10, and d12 are necessary. This table shows the percentage chance of a result and the old AD&D rarity equivalent.
