Modern Suelo & its Calendar

Calendar

Although many calendars have flourished in Suelo's history, only the Draconic Calendar has endured. This dates everything back to the day Io was imprisoned. The largest unit of time is the Dragon Age, which lasts 1200 years (the time it takes for a wyrmling to reach great wyrm), it is currently the 42nd Dragon Age since Io's imprisonment.  The Suelon year is (like our own) 365 days long. There are no leap years. In each year there are 13 months of 28 days each. The months are named for th major astronomical bodies of Dragonspace. The first day of the year, The Day of Io, is not part of any month and always falls on the summer solstice. It is a day of quiet contemplation, and by ancient tradition no battles may be fought during it. Each month consists of 4 weeks each of seven days. The following table summarizes the names of the months, days, and dates of major holidays.

Modern Suelo

The current year is 931-42 DC (The nine-hundred and thirty-first year of the forty-second dragon age, Draconic Calendar)

The elves, dwarves, and goblinoids of Suelo feel none of the archetypal hatreds towards each other that their otherworldly bretheren seem to feel. The goblinoid nation of Yur, the twin dwarven nations of Ausia, and the thirteen elven nations of Arizon have joined to together in a political alliance of mutual support (both military and economic) and friendship. This alliance is known as the Lil Tern Inthigg (The Triple Alliance). Unlike most worlds, the elves, dwarves, and goblinoids enjoy each other's company and are more comfortable around each other than even around humans.

The LTI's principle enemy is Bolshoy Saiuz (The Great Alliance), composed by the illithids of Gondwania, the halflings of Alflon, and the enslaved lizardfolk tribes of Laurana. The halflings of Suelo are a bloodthirsty people bent on world domination, and it is they (not the illithids or rumored otherworldly patrons) who lead this alliance. It should be noted that the halflings of the first world, Tos, are not fond of their evil cousins and frequently meet their landing parties with violence.

The humans of Konas and Bluetspur were previously politically neutral but during the last century and a half two great empires, Imtal and Xymoria came to dominate much of the two continets and warred with each other ceaselessly. Elves from the kingdom of Alothiel demonstrated their support for Xymoria, and in response the Bolshoy Saiuz lent troops to Imtal. The resulting escalations of hostilities led to both sides uncovering the ancienty talismans which had been used by the Ceruleans and Ora to command the tarrasques. As the imense weapons of war reaked havoc upon the land, the extraplanetary forces of the two alliances warred for dominance over nearly every planet in the system.

Open hostilities slowed as each side entrenched itself, and little territory changed sides. Left once again to their own devices Xymoria and Imtal settled into a cold war. During this time a mysterious figure took command of Imtal by slaughtering its ruling council and proclaimed himself emperor. He was never known by any other name or title. Shortly after this time an equally mysterious figure, an Imtali freedom fighter known as Auk begana quest to liberate Imtal from the yoke of evil under which it was founded.

Auk, known to summon as a warrior, others as a wizard, and others as a priest, and her companions traveled to Xymoria and allied with a number of organizations there. When they had gathered sufficient resources the companions launched a tactical strike against the capital city of the Imtal Empire while they themselves attempted to assassinate the mysterious emperor in his throne room. The assault nearly ended in disaster, as the emperor was revealed to be an unknown divine entity. The aranea sorcerer Nailo was, however, able to steal the emperor's scepter as they fled from the throne room to the temple of Xymor in Corbryn, capital of Xymoria.

The emperor followed them. Details are sketchy, but the ensuing battle attraced a great deal of divine attention, including that of Bahamut, Faluzure, Hendel, Kos, Tiamat, & Xymor. The emperor was slain in the ensuing battle, but the sorcerer Nailo was corrupted by his power and gifted with a fragment of the emperor's blasphemous divinity. The god Kos was slain by the god Hendel, who devoured several shards of his essence, even as the notorious archwizard The Shade spirited a fraction of it away. The demigod Kaln'ic and the newly empowered demigod Nailo battled over the remaining bits of the fallen god's essence.

As the god's battled in Corbryn, Auk and her remaining companions journeyed back to Imtal and began the long process of liberating it. The God's Battle of Corbryn ended as the sun set on Gea 3, 881-42; in the end Kos lay dead, and both Tiamat and Faluzure were forced to flea the field. In the following years Imtal began to crumble. Nailo fled to the Tower fo High Necromancy in the ruins of Imtal city (which had been leveled with previously uknown magics during the twin battles), and a veil of darkness settled about the surrounding territories. In the north Auk founded The Republic of Imtal. Most of the northeastern provinces either ceceded or imploded in upon themselves due to the politcal turmoil. Most of the traditional upper class of Imtal (Necromancers and Death Knights) fled to the south, into the lands surrounding the former capital city, where they came to worship Nailo, and servce as his army.

Eventually the City of Nailo and all lands south of it ceceded from the Republic of Imtal. In the lands beneath the veil of darkness the practices of the Imtal Empire still thrive under the leadership of their new emperor. The Republic remains in chaos.

Xymoria itself remained stable, but the lands of D'anite and Shadow along its eastern border have crumbled into chaos. Their former rulers, Brand and The Shade achieved apotheosis, and have carrier their eternal battle, and most of their favored lieutenants, into the Abyss. The resulting power vacuum has preciptated countless petty warlords staking their claim to whatever of those lands they can hold.
